Deadlines
Deadline calendar for Nigerian courts and tenancies
One calendar for the whole chamber: hearing dates, filing and limitation dates, CAC filing dates, and tenancy notice periods. Starter deadline packs for every state and the FCT count the days for you — in calendar days or working days, skipping weekends and public holidays when the rule needs working days.
The problem it solves
How most chambers do it today
Most chambers keep dates in a paper diary, on a wall calendar, or in one lawyer’s phone. Days are counted by hand, public holidays are forgotten, and when the person who keeps the diary is away, nobody else knows what is coming up. One missed filing window or limitation date can cost a client the case and the chamber its reputation.
What changes with LawKona
LawKona works out the dates for each matter from the deadline pack for its type and state, puts every date on one shared calendar, and emails the lawyers on the file when each date comes up — so a date is never left to one person’s memory.
In practice
A litigation chamber in Port Harcourt. The chamber and people are illustrative; every step is how LawKona works today.
Okafor Chambers sets Rivers as its home state in Settings. Every new matter takes that state, and the deadline packs follow it.
A new litigation matter goes live. LawKona sets up its reminders from the chamber’s rules for litigation, counted for Rivers, and they appear on the firm calendar.
After the first sitting, the associate adds the adjournment date to the matter’s hearings diary. It shows on the calendar next to every other date in the chamber.
When the associate is away, a colleague opens the calendar, sees the hearing, and covers it. Anything that slips past shows as overdue in Inbox until someone deals with it.
How it works
Set your chamber’s state
In Settings, choose one home state, several states, or leave it open. New matters take the home state, and the deadline packs follow it.
Reminders appear when a matter goes live
When a matter becomes active, LawKona sets up its reminders on its own from your chamber’s reminder rules for that matter type, counted for its state — tenancy notice dates, filing windows, and follow-ups.
Record hearings in the diary
Add hearing dates to the matter’s hearings diary. They show on the firm calendar next to every other date.
Nothing slips past
See the month or an agenda list. Overdue dates show in Inbox, and reminders go to the lawyers assigned to the matter.
Who uses it
Litigator
Hearings and filing windows on one calendar, with email reminders sent to the lawyers on the matter.
Tenancy or corporate practitioner
Notice periods, lease dates, and CAC filing dates worked out from the file instead of counted by hand.
Principal or partner
The whole chamber’s diary in one view, and overdue dates surfaced in Inbox.
Why it helps your chamber
Fewer missed dates
Reminders are created when a matter goes live and emailed to the lawyers on the file, and anything overdue shows in Inbox until it is dealt with.
No counting days by hand
Packs count calendar days or working days for your state and skip weekends and public holidays when the rule needs working days.
One diary for the whole chamber
Everyone sees the same calendar, so a colleague can cover a hearing without asking for the date.

Works with
- Reminders and alerts
LawKona works out every date on the file and reminds the right people ahead of time — the lawyers by email, tenants by email and WhatsApp. The chamber stops missing dates, and tenants stop saying nobody told them.
- Notices
Tenancy notices prepared on time from the lease dates, approved by a lawyer, then sent to the tenant by email and WhatsApp with a record of every send. No more notices remembered late, sent from personal phones, or sent without a senior lawyer seeing them.
- Matters
One shared file for each brief, holding the parties, dates, documents, notes, and money. No more piecing a case together from a paper jacket, a chat group, and a spreadsheet that never agree.
Deadlines questions
- Which states are covered?
- Every Nigerian state and the FCT has a starter pack. The packs are starting points — counsel should confirm current local practice for each matter.
- Does it account for public holidays?
- Yes. When a pack counts working days, it skips weekends and the Nigerian public holidays loaded for that year and state.
- Who gets reminded?
- The lawyers assigned to the matter are emailed, or the chamber’s principal if nobody is assigned. Notices meant for tenants wait for a lawyer’s approval, then go to the tenant by email and WhatsApp. See Reminders and alerts for the full picture.
- We practise in more than one state. Does that work?
- Yes. Choose several states in Settings and set the state on each matter; its deadlines follow that state.
- Is a deadline pack legal advice?
- No. It saves you counting days by hand. The lawyer on the file remains responsible for the correct date.
