Inbox and team
Inbox, tasks, and matter discussion for your team
Inbox is the chamber’s list of things that need a lawyer’s decision: notices waiting for approval, tenant applications to review, dates that are overdue or due today, and new matters held for a conflict check. On each matter the team also assigns tasks and discusses the file in one thread that stays with the matter.
The problem it solves
How most chambers do it today
Work in a chamber is usually handed out by word of mouth or in a WhatsApp group. Instructions get buried under other messages, nobody is sure who agreed to draft the reply, and when a junior lawyer leaves, the conversation about a case leaves with their phone. Principals often learn that something was missed only when it is already late.
What changes with LawKona
LawKona puts the chamber’s daily decisions in one list and keeps the work and the conversation on the matter itself. A principal sees what is waiting for approval, each lawyer sees what is assigned to them, and anyone who picks up the file later can read the whole history.
In practice
Monday morning at a five-lawyer chamber in Abuja. The chamber and people are illustrative; every step is how LawKona works today.
The principal opens Inbox. At the top is a tenancy notice waiting for approval, and a new matter held because the other party’s name matched an existing client.
She approves the notice from the list. Then she opens the held matter, sees the match is a different person with the same name, and acknowledges it so the file opens.
On a commercial suit she adds a task, “Draft reply to counter-affidavit”, assigns it to an associate with a Thursday due date, and mentions him in the matter thread with the background.
The associate sees it under My tasks, does the work, and marks it done. The discussion stays on the matter for whoever handles the file next.
How it works
Inbox collects what needs a lawyer
Notices waiting for approval, tenant applications, overdue and due-today reminders, and matters held for conflict review arrive in one list on their own, most urgent first.
Open an item and act
Each row links straight to the place to deal with it — approve the notice, review the application, or open the matter.
Assign tasks on the matter
Add a task such as “Draft reply affidavit”, choose who owns it, set a priority and a due date, and move it along as the work progresses.
Talk the file through
Write to the matter team in the matter’s thread, mention a colleague to bring them in, and keep the video meeting link for the matter in one place.
Who uses it
Principal or partner
One list of approvals and conflict reviews each morning, with the most urgent first.
Associate or pupil
My tasks: every piece of work assigned to them across all matters, with due dates.
Paralegal, clerk, or admin
Clear instructions on the matter itself, and a thread to ask questions without a phone call.
Why it helps your chamber
Start every morning with one list
Open Inbox and see what is overdue, what is due today, and what is waiting for your approval — sorted with the most urgent first.
Everyone knows who is doing what
Each task has an owner, a priority, and a due date, and My tasks shows every lawyer their work across all matters.
Conversations stay with the file
Messages, mentions, and the meeting link for a matter sit on the matter, so a colleague joining later can read the whole history.

Inbox and team questions
- Is Inbox the same as email?
- No. Inbox is a work list inside LawKona. It shows what needs a decision in your chamber; it does not receive outside email.
- Can clients see the matter discussion?
- No. Tasks and the discussion thread are for your chamber’s team only. Clients and tenants see only what you share through the client portal.
- Where do I see my own tasks?
- My tasks lists every task assigned to you across all matters, with the option to show finished ones too.
- Is this an extra cost?
- No. Inbox, tasks, and matter discussion come with every plan, including Free.
- Does it work on my phone?
- Yes. LawKona runs in the web browser on a laptop, tablet, or phone, so there is nothing to install. For court days, the court companion is built for the phone and keeps working when the network drops.
