Security and data protection for your chamber
Client files are privileged. In LawKona each chamber’s data is walled off at the database, every person signs in with their own login and role, the most sensitive notes are encrypted, and views and changes to files are written to an audit log that cannot be edited or deleted.
The problem it solves
How most chambers do it today
Client files often sit on personal phones, shared laptops, and WhatsApp chats. When a phone is lost or a staff member leaves, the chamber cannot say who saw what, and it cannot easily show a client how their information is protected, as the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 expects.
What changes with LawKona
LawKona protects privileged client information by design, so the chamber can keep its duty of confidentiality and explain plainly how personal data is handled.
In practice
A client asks how their file is protected. The chamber and people are illustrative; every step is how LawKona works today.
Before instructing Bello Legal, a company’s in-house counsel asks how confidential information will be kept.
The principal explains that the chamber’s records are walled off at the database from every other firm on LawKona, and that each person in the chamber signs in with their own login and role.
She adds that strategy notes and witness details are encrypted before they are stored, that views and changes to them go on an audit log nobody can edit, and that only she and the admin can move client money or change settings.
She has switched on two-factor login for her own account, so a stolen password alone cannot open the chamber. The client instructs the firm.
How it works
Each chamber is walled off
Every request is tied to one chamber, and the database itself refuses to return another chamber’s records.
Everyone has their own login and role
Principal, associate, paralegal, or admin. Sensitive actions — like moving client money or changing chamber settings — need a principal or admin.
Sensitive notes are encrypted
Strategy notes and witness details are encrypted before they are stored, so a copy of the database alone does not reveal them.
Views and changes are logged
Opening and editing matters, clients, strategy notes, and witnesses is recorded on an audit log that cannot be changed or deleted.
Sign-in is protected
A verified email, a strong password stored only as a one-way hash, optional two-factor login with an authenticator app and recovery codes, a bot check at sign-in, a session cookie scripts cannot read, and HTTPS throughout.
Who uses it
Principal or partner
Clear answers for clients about confidentiality, and control over who can move money or change settings.
Every lawyer and staff member
Their own login, an optional second step at sign-in, and access that matches their role.
Client or tenant
Their data handled with consent on record, and seen only by the chamber they instructed.
Why it helps your chamber
Confidentiality you can explain to a client
Each chamber’s records are separated at the database itself, and nobody outside your chamber can open your files.
The right people see the right things
Roles decide who can change settings or move client money, and optional two-factor login adds a second lock on each account.
A trail for every sensitive action
Views and changes to matters, clients, strategy notes, and witnesses are written to a log that cannot be edited or deleted.

Security questions
- Is LawKona NDPA compliant?
- LawKona is built with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 in mind — consent records at tenant intake, role-based access, encryption of sensitive notes, and an audit log. Your chamber remains the controller of client data; see our privacy policy for the detail.
- Can LawKona staff read our files?
- We do not read your chamber’s files for our own purposes. We access them only to run and support the service, or when the law requires it.
- Where is our data stored?
- On a cloud server we operate for LawKona. Our privacy policy lists the service providers we use and where they are based.
- Can we get a copy of our data?
- Yes — export matters, invoices and the trust ledger to Excel (CSV) from those screens. For a full copy, email support@lawkona.com.
